Meredith é uma
cirurgiã interna do primeiro ano no Hospital Seattle Grace, o programa
cirúrgico mais rígido da Harvard. Ela e seus outros colegas internos
Cristina, Izzie, George e Alex eram apenas estudantes até ontem. Hoje
eles são médicos e, num mundo onde o treinamento no trabalho é uma
questão de vida ou morte, todos eles tentam conciliar os altos e baixos
de suas vidas pessoais.
Os cinco internos lutam para formar amizades
nessa mais estressante e competitiva atmosfera.A ambição médica de
Meredith é ofuscada por um grande segredo: sua mãe, uma reconhecida
cirurgiã, está sofrendo de uma trágica doença; Cristina é altamente
competitiva e recusa qualquer favor para fazer tudo sozinha; Izzie
Stevens é uma garota do interior que cresceu pobre e atua como modelo
para sustentar a carreira médica; George O’Malley, além de carismático
é inseguro, e sempre faz a coisa errada na hora errada; e Ale Karev, o
residente que seus companheiros adorariam ter, esconde com arrogância o
verdadeiro motivo pelo qual escolheu a profissão.
Os internos são
guiados por uma estabelecida equipe de médicos que estão determinados a
transformá-los em habilidosos cirurgiões ou acabar com o sonho deles:
Miranda Bailey, uma residente do último ano que é responsável por
treiná-los, e que também é conhecida por seu apelido de “A Nazista”;
Derek Shepherd é um galanteador, porém muito competente, cirurgião que
compartilha sua proibida e inegável atração sexual por Meredith; a
arrogância de Preston Burke fica atrás apenas de sua habilidade com o
bisturi; e supervisionando todos eles está o Dr. Richard Webber, o
